June 21, 2011, ERIE, PA — A study published in the journal Pediatrics reveals that a child dies in a portable pool accident every five days during the warm weather months. Most of the children (94%) were under age 5 and 81% of the accidents happened in the summer months.
The findings reveal considerable risk associated with these pools, not least because they are so easily obtained and frequently parents do not consider the risk associated with them. Consumer education is critical to avoid portable kiddie pool accidents and injuries. Barrier protection is part of what is required but even more important is vigilant adult supervision.
