August 3, 2011

August 4, 2011, Union City, PA — The Erie Times-News has reported that a local businessman was killed in an Erie County car accident yesterday.* The Pennsylvania car crash occurred on Route 8 in Amity Township when a Mercedes-Benz E320 left the roadway while negotiating a curve, hit a ditch and flipped. The vehicle then hit a utility pole.

The fatal Erie wreck happened near 10:30 p.m. last night. The driver, owner of a local vacuum cleaner business, was pronounced dead at the scene approximately one hour after the Erie accident.

There are no reports yet about road conditions or the utility pole placement. In one car accidents of this sort, officials sometimes blame the driver without considering other factors such as road defects or dangerous roadside hazards (like negligently placed utility poles). No information was available about this particular car accident that would shed light on these issues one way or another.

Our condolences are with the family of the victim.
