Crawford County Injury Lawyer News Foundry Fire

June 9, 2012

June 9, 2012, Meadville, PA — As Crawford County injury attorneys, we know that employment injuries not only result in workers compensation claims but can also result in product liability and other personal injury claims.  A recent Meadville foundry fire highlights that important lesson.

The fire, at Advanced Cast Products on Mill Street in Vernon Township, began yesterday afternoon when molten iron spilled from a ladle.  Two people were injured in the fire, which was extinquished by firefighters from Vernon Township, assisted by three nearby departments.

Details on the fire are limited at this time but experienced Meadville injury attorneys know that Pennsylvania workplace injuries like this one raise a variety of issues that must be thoroughly explored.  Obviously, workplace injuries immediately suggest the possibility of a workman’s compensation claim.  However, some Pennsylvania accident lawyers stop at this point because employers and co-workers in Pennsylvania are immune from other liability.  However, there are other important claims to consider, including claims of product liability for defective products that contributed to the harm and exploration of the relationships among the parties that may reveal that some of those involved were not employees but independent contractors, who do not enjoy immunity under Pennsylvania’s injured worker compensation law.
